DescripThe Center for Shared Prosperity (CSP) is looking for an intern for the 2023 Spring Semester to support CSP’s ongoing Reading & Action project and a spring event with the following goal: “CMU has a responsibility to be a ‘good neighbor’ to the Greater Pittsburgh Region. How do we exemplify this in our actions as a university? This panel aims to untangle the nuance of public universities’ tax-exempt status, examine how this status impacts our region, and explore potential future actions.” This internship position will focus specifically on 1) planning a March 2023 panel event and 2) supporting additional activities of the Reading & Action group. Pay will be concordant with university guidelines ($18/hr for undergraduate students).
It is strongly preferred that this intern attends Reading & Action bi-weekly meetings on Thursdays from 12 pm - 1 pm
Tasks:
Generate a strategy for engaging students and student groups in this topic
Recruit student attendance at the panel event
Collaborate with student groups (ex: GSA, Undergraduate Student Senate) to build interest
Select and work with a local, minoritized business to cater the event
Curate supplemental materials to educate individuals on the basics and impact of a tax-exempt status
Support event registration
Collaborate on strategies for measuring event impact
Partner with community organizations
Support additional pre-event, event, and post-event logistics
Additional Responsibilities and Duties:
Communicate with your advisors Jessica Kaminsky and Jordan Mroziak on a weekly or daily basis through email, slack, and/or bi-weekly individual meetings
Advocate for different ideas and projects to possibly be initiated when you have a new idea
Attend CSP’s monthly C3 meetings and Town Halls regarding overall CSP updates (as available)
Qualifications:
Be a CMU student, undergrad or masters
Be able to commit 5-8 hours a week
Be enthusiastic to learn about how to better the relationship between Pittsburgh and CMU
Be open to constructive criticism and be comfortable with giving feedback

The Center for Shared Prosperity (CSP) is looking for an intern for the 2023 Spring Semester to support CSP’s Diversifying Procurement effort. Carnegie Mellon University is a significant economic driver in our Greater Pittsburgh Region, and we have the opportunity to profoundly support minoritized businesses and our local economy. This internship position will focus specifically on diversifying student spending through 1) building customized resources and 2) educating students on why they should prioritize purchasing from local, minoritized businesses. Pay will be concordant with university guidelines ($18/hr for undergraduate students).
Tasks:
Learn university practices and protocols for purchasing (ex: p-card, reimbursement) to gain understanding of the purchasing ecosystem at CMU
Build relationships with owners of local businesses
Keep current and socialize a spreadsheet of local, minoritized restaurants and caterers (https://airtable.com/shr8Pmc5ZldfPEjtU/tbl01iwT7PRQr1cMR)
Create communications plan to inform students of local, minoritized businesses from which they can purchase goods and services, including partnering with SLICE and other student-focused groups
Generate student purchasing lists for frequently purchased items (ex: t-shirts, Carnival supplies, etc.)
Align development of resources with purchasing patterns
Provide customized support for student organizations wanting to purchase from local, minoritized suppliers
Design additional projects that support the efforts of diversifying procurement
Collaborate with organizations and procurement efforts, such as SLICE and Procurement Services, to align strategies internally
